CURRENT SITUATION
In Austria, valuable natural areas are lost every day - through the construction of roads, parking lots and buildings. Habitats such as floodplains, moors and dry meadows are threatened by intensive agriculture and climate change. This endangers numerous animal and plant species and has far-reaching consequences for the ecological balance and people's quality of life.
PROJECT PRESENTATION
The "Naturfreikauf" is a central initiative of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union, which has been working to protect biodiversity and endangered habitats in Austria for over 100 years.
Land is specifically purchased or leased in order to protect it from destruction.
Particularly in regions such as Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria, the Nature Conservation Association ensures that endangered natural areas do not fall victim to the construction of traffic routes or intensive agricultural use.
HOW THE DONATION HELPS
The donation enables:
- the purchase or lease of endangered natural areas in Austria and their permanent protection,
- the maintenance and renaturation of these areas, e.g. by creating ponds or mowing meadows,
- the protection of endangered animal species and the long-term safeguarding of valuable habitats.
